- Teams can use libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in their projects. You must use an HTNG or Sponsor API to be eligible for prizes.
- This event neither promotes nor permits coding activities designed to circumvent security functionality or exploit software vulnerabilities.
- Teams cannot exceed 10 persons. As a participant, you should make sure to check how many prizes are available per team. HTNG, however does not recommend teams larger than 5 persons.
- Teams should be made up of students (or recent graduates) who aren or organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors or in any other privileged position at the event. HTNG member companies may participate, but are not eligible to win prizes.
- All team members should be present at the event. Leaving the venue for some time to hack elsewhere is acceptable.
- Teams or individuals are encouraged to ask for advice, gain support from organizers, members, sponsors, and others.
- All work on a project should be done at the Hackathon, but HTNG expects (and encourages) some planning to be done beforehand.
- Teams may use an idea they had before the event.
- Teams may work on ideas that have already been done - just do it better! Original ideas are encouraged, but it is not feasible to verify this in a timely manner, nor in a truncated schedule of a hackathon.
- Teams can work on an idea that they have worked on before (as long as they do not re-use code outside of existing tools, libraries, or other commonly available tools).
- Adding new features to existing projects is allowed. Judges will only consider new functionality introduced or new features added during the Hackathon in determining the winners. If a team fails to disclose pre-existing functionality, they may be disqualified at the discretion of HTNG.
- Teams must stop hacking once the time is up. However, teams are allowed to debug and make small fixes to their programs after time is up. Making large changes or adding new features in not allowed.
- Projects, discussions, or activities that violate the HTNG Code of Conduct are not allowed.
- Prizes will paid to the best 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams. Prize money will be split amongst team members, as applicable.
- Teams can be disqualified from the competition at HTNG's discretion. Reasons might include, but are not limited to, breaking the competition rules, breaking the HTNG Code of Conduct, or other inappropriate behavior.
